Ryan Glenski Making CARS Pro Cup Series Debut

By Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com,

CARS Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

One driver who may have an advantage this weekend is newcomer Ryan Glenski, who will be making his debut in the CARS Pro Cup Series driving Wes Gonder Racing’s No. 36 Chevrolet. Glenski, a 19-year-old native of New York, has raced at Dillon several times before and is expecting to make a quick impact with the series. He is a veteran of several classes of racing, including bandoleros, the Allison Legacy Series, ARCA and various late-model divisions. “I am really excited to have the chance to run my first Pro Cup race with Brian Lear as my crew chief at Wes Gonder Racing,” Glenski said. “I think going to Dillon for my first races gives me some advantage. I’ve raced there in the past and love the track. “I think with the level of the performance WGR brings to the track every weekend, we will have a solid shot at a good finish. I am very thankful to Jack McNelly for keeping this great series going and finally getting a chance to race one, thanks to Wes Gonder Racing,” Glenski said. Started 6th - DNF due to a broken lifter in motor.

Pro-Challenge Series Race Recap,

Press Release by Karin LaBonte

Bristol Motor Speedway introduces its high banks and the thrill of Thunder Valley to deliver Ryan Glenski’s 191st career win. Fifteen year old Ryan Glenski of Mooresville, NC, sat behind the wheel of a Pro-Challenge car for only the second time….and again, comes home with another victory. 2 for 2. This victory pushed Glenski to 191 wins and could not have done it without a gracious offer from the Lajoie family. Randy Lajoie, a former NASCAR Busch Series Champion, offered Glenski his son’s Pro-Challenge car to run at Bristol. Corey Lajoie has moved up to the UARA Late Model Division and was on hand to help Glenski out during the race. Without any previous time in the Lajoie #711 car, Glenski was able to place the car on the outside pole. After the green dropped Glenski found himself in all of the “ahh” of being able to race at BMS and knew he couldn’t screw up…especially mess up a gift of racing a car that someone else owned. How many people today just hand out a free ride just for the asking? I guess it would be the simple fact of having faith…faith in someone else’s kids says a lot. It takes an amazing family to give that gift. At the very start it was the #28 truck of Terry Horak showing the way with Glenski following. It was probably the best way for Glenski to settle in and get used to the track. While Horak took off and held a comfortable lead, the #40 of J.L. Snowden was coming. While the next caution placed Glenski on the inside of the second row behind Horak, the place where he wanted to be, it was when the green came out, the #40 car and #118 Devon Haun, were on the outside battling and Horak and Glenski took off and never looked back. Glenski was able to stay with Horak this time, only to find out Horak cut a tire and slid up the track with only 3 laps to go. “This is pretty big for me” Glenski said. “I didn’t think I had anything for him (Horak) as he got away from me in five laps. I knew something was wrong when I was able to get to his bumper in two laps. I got the lead and then got away.” Glenski also runs the Allison Legacy Series full time and has a victory at South Boston, VA. with his #28 machine. His next Allison Legacy race will be at Florence Motor Speedway. Last season he won the “Rookie of the Year” honors and was voted “Hard Charger of the Year”. With Glenski turning 16 this fall, he is searching for the next car he will be taking to victory circle. http://www.prochallenge.net/2008_releases/north_south_peachst_bristol_7_3_5.html

Ryan Glenski Takes Pro Challenge North Region Opener at Orange County

Young Pro Challenge rookie Kyle Benjamin was the star of the show during the Pro Challenge North Region’s season opener Saturday afternoon at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC, but it was Ryan Glenski who stole the victory when it counted. Benjamin earned the pole over defending series Rookie of the Year Kyle Wilson and 2008’s Most Popular Driver, Meghan Dillner in qualifying. He then checked out from the field from the drop of the green flag. Dillner made the first advances on Benjamin in the first 15 laps in her number-51 until contact between Glenski and Dillner put the number-34 on a quest to catch Benjamin. Benjamin’s number-71 appeared to be on cruise control, until a caution flag with just two laps remaining in the 50-lap event put a serious damper on his plan for a season-opening victory. During the green-white-checker restart, Glenski made a power move on the outside groove to earn his second-career Pro Challenge win in as many series starts. “I really just kept digging as hard as I could each lap,” said Glenski. “The car stayed with me. I changed my line up a little bit to tighten the car up. I had a winning car and two to go we had a caution. We had a double-file restart, but I got lucky there. I got a good start, got the lead and won it from there.” Glenski’s rear bumper-cover flew off mid-race after another competitor tagged him from behind when Glenski’s machine failed to come up to speed on a restart. Undeterred, Glenski kept pushing his car to its limits as he chased down Benjamin – a feat made possible with the final caution. “Raymond (Williams) was our crew chief for the day and he knew what he was doing. The car was a little loose throughout the day, so we worked on that. It was still a little loose in qualifying, so we couldn't really get a good lap in, but during the race it was pretty good.” Glenski made his first-ever Pro Challenge Series start in a non-points event at OCS last June for the series’ rookies. Glenski, a former Bandolero Champion, strapped into a Pro Challenge machine for the first time and scored the victory. That track time in a Pro Challenge car at Orange County helped set the stage for his winning effort on Saturday. “I learned the line last year. It is hard to go to a race that you have never been to, at a different track, and with a different car, and know what to do and where to run.” Glenski was followed to the line by Benjamin, but in post-race technical inspection, Benjamin’s #17 was disqualified for shock and sway-bar arm rules infractions. That handed the second-place finish to Stephen Bergh, Jr. Chris Brown followed in third with his best-career Pro Challenge finish, while Kyle Wilson and Trevor Edwards rounded out the top-five. The Pro Challenge North Region will be back in action on Saturday, March 14th with a 50-lap feature at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC). The event will be an undercard event for the UARA-Stars Late Model Stock Car tour’s season-opener. Benjamin Strong Until a DQ in Post-Race Tech Ruins His Day. Ryan Glenski took the Curt Andrews-owned #34 to victory lane at Orange County. Benjamin (#71), Glenski (#34) and Dillner (#51) put on a show at the front of the field mid-race.

190th Career Win

Ryan was offered a ride in the Rookie Race at OCS. Car owner Tony Arnold was trying to sell his Pro-Challenge car and thought Ryan would show its potential. Ryan placed Arnold's #18 machine in victory lane for his first time behind the wheel of a Pro-Challenge machine.

Needless to say Tony Arnold received top dollar for his car...thanks to Ryan!
